Peggy Joydean Wright

Peggy Joydean Wright, age 94, a Atoka, OK resident was born on Monday, July 4, 1932, to Thomas and Vera (Hardman) McKay, at Amherst, TX and passed away on Friday, September 25, 2026 at Coalgate, OK.

Peggy graduated Amherst High School where she was basketball player and later graduated nursing school. She was a Registered Nurse, first working at Peoples Hospital in Floydada, TX, then many years at the old Atoka Hospital, health department and teaching at the Vo-Tech.

Peggy married Troy Dean Wright in 1950 in Floydada TX. They celebrated 58 years together before his death in January 19th 2008.

Peggy was a longtime member of Atoka South Church of Christ. She was an heirloom expert quilter who did everything by hand. She loved her pets, and adored her children and grandchildren. The grandchildren labled her as "the best cook ever". She was a workaholic, keeping herself bustling even at home with her garden, horses, cattle and other ranch work. She liked watching Heartland, Long Mire, any old westerns and anything with horses. She was an excellent teacher, loving the time she spent at the Vo-Tech teaching doctors how to be good doctors. She was a breast cancer survivor and battled many illnesses, never loosing her faith.

Peggy is survived by sons Rickey Don Wright and Paula of Mansfield, TX, and Larry Joe Wright and Cina of Kennedale, TX; grandsons Phillip Lynn Wright and Shannon of Richland , TX, Patrick Wright of Mansfield, TX, Charlie Wright and Kevin Wright; granddaughters Ashley Johnson and Chase of Keller, TX, and Lindsey Speece of Kennedale, TX; great granddaughters Jordyn Flores and Kolton of Mildred, TX, and Averi Johnson of Keller, TX; great grandsons Leo Wright of Keller, TX, and Colby Moore of Atoka, OK; great great granddaughter Arin Ulmer of Anna, TX; great great grandsons Hunter Wright of Atoka, OK, Archer Flores of Mildred, TX and Coil Rey Flores of Mildred, TX; along with numerous cousins, extended family and many loved and dear friends

Peggy is preceded in death by parents Thomas and Vera (Hardman) McKay, and husband Troy Dean Wright.
