Rickey Earl "Papa" Umsted, age 69, a lifelong Caney, OK resident. He was born on Sunday, August 15, 1954, to Robert Earl and Bessie Alene (Workman) Umsted, at Oklahoma City, OK. Rick passed away on Friday, June 21, 2024 at Atoka, OK. He graduated from Caney High School with the Class of 73". Rick worked a number of years for Peabody Galion in Durant, OK as a welder, worked for Atoka County and retired from Oklahoma Dept. of Transportation after 20 years. He was a lifelong member of Caney Freewill Baptist Church, member of World Champion Caney Red's Relay Team, a member of Caney's Feed Bin Coffee Drinker's Club, proud member of the "Trump Train", enjoyed hog hunting, horses, auctions, loved deer camp, cooking and eating, being with his kids and grandkids and going to their sports events.
Rick is survived by his daughters, Leslie Marie Eaves and husband Clint of Caney, OK, Lisa Diane Taylor of Caney, OK; grandchildren, Jaycie Coats and husband Blayne of Caney, OK, Kord Crews and wife Ashlynn of Lane, OK, Jake Taylor and Jessica Odom of Caney, OK, Kale Graham of Caney, OK, Jolee Taylor of Caney, OK, Tucker Eaves of Pittsburg, OK; great grandson, Fischer "The Boy" Phillip Coats of Caney, OK; siblings, Vicki Kirkpatrick and husband Joe of Durant, OK, Mickey Lee Umsted of Checotah, OK; best friend, Raymond Cooper of Atoka, OK; nieces and nephews, Jonna Teakle, Lori Ford, Kindra Neece, Dakota Umsted; THE FAMILY WISHES A SPECIAL THANK YOU TO THE ATOKA MANOR STAFF AND THE STAFF OF THE FEED BIN, CANEY, OK; along with numerous other relatives and many dear and loved friends.
Rick was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Earl and Bessie Alene (Workman) Umsted; son in law, Phillip Alford.
