Rickie Joy (Thompson) Thompson, age 71, a lifelong Stringtown, OK area resident, was born on Wednesday, October 27, 1948, to Leslie Marison and Imogene Elizabeth Smith Thompson, in Atoka, OK. Rickie passed away on Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at her home in Stringtown, OK surrounded by her loved ones. She attended school at Limestone Gap, graduated from Stringtown High School. Rickie received her Bachelor's degree from SOSU, her Vocational Home Economics Degree from East Texas Christian University, and her Master's Degree from the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond, OK. Rickie began her teaching career at Stringtown Public School as the Home Economics Teacher. Rickie was hired as the Adult Program Coordinator when the Career Tech first opened in Atoka. She was later appointed as the Director for the Atoka Kiamichi Career Tech where she retired with 23 years of service. She married Loyd Wayne Thompson on Saturday, June 18th, 1966 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Stringtown, OK. Rickie was a member of Stringtown First Baptist Church. She enjoyed singing with the Singing Church Women of Oklahoma, she served as a member on the Atoka County Hospital Board, served many years as the Choir Director and Children's Choir Director at Stringtown First Baptist Church, and was involved in many church activities. Rickie served in many capacities as her and Loyd ministered in churches throughout the community.
Rickie is survived by her husband, Loyd Wayne Thompson of the home in Stringtown, OK; daughters, Ronny Joy Thompson Potts and husband Tony of Stringtown, OK, Brigitt LeAnn Thompson Bedwell and husband Glenn of Colorado Springs, CO; grandchildren, Tate Bedwell and wife Brooke of Colorado Springs, CO, Alex Barrett and husband Dillon of Stringtown, OK, Spencer Loyd Bedwell and wife Alexandra of Colorado Springs, CO, Cooie Potts and wife Taylor of Stringtown, OK, Tucker James Bedwell of Colorado Springs, CO; great grandchildren, Brody Aaron Bedwell, Ellie Joy Barrett, Chase Thompson Bedwell, Bosie Warren Barrett, Beckett Gaines Bedwell, Easton Ryan Bedwell, Crockett Warren Potts; sisters, Doris Duckworth and husband Billy of Grand Saline, TX, Paula Daniel and husband Joe of Atoka, OK; aunts, Synthia Thompson Bowen of Atoka, OK, Georgia Smith Lawrence of Coalgate, OK; along with nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and many dear and loved friends.
Rickie was preceded in death by her parents, Leslie Marison and Imogene Elizabeth Smith Thompson; brother, Gary Ray Thompson.
