Obituary

Roland "Ray" Carroll, age 87, a longtime Atoka, OK resident, was raised in the Soper area, then lived a few years in the Choctaw, OK area, was born on Monday, December 11, 1933, to Oran Ray and Ethel Sue (Foreman) Carroll, at Boswell, OK. Ray passed away on Thursday, January 28, 2021 at Sherman, TX. He attended Soper Public Schools and graduated from Choctaw High School. He married Marlene June (Hartman) on Saturday, September 1st, 1951 at Midwest City, OK. They celebrated 69 years of marriage before his passing. Ray worked for Continental Baking Co. (Wonder Bread), in the shipping dept. for 17 years, then he pulled double shifts working at Wonder Bread and at Tinker AFB for awhile. He worked at Tinker AFB about 8 years before moving to Atoka County in 1972 and bought the ranch now known as the Flying C Ranch. Ray worked in the oil field for 3-4 years then was a rural mail carrier in Atoka for over 20 years. Ray was a longtime member of Penn and A Church of Christ. He served on Atoka County Soil Conservation Board where he was chairman, a volunteer fireman with the Wards Chapel Fire Dept, member of N.R.A., loved to work and tend his cows, being outdoors, haul hay and was an avid ping pong player at Tinker AFB. He loved his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren immensely, almost as much as momo.

Ray is survived by his wife, Marlene June Carroll of the home in Atoka, OK; children, Raylene Buren and husband Steve of Piedmont, OK, Glenn Carroll and wife Connie of Atoka, OK, Malinda Calvert and husband Robert ofAtoka, OK, Marleta Hardman and husband Dan of Atoka, OK; grandchildren, Steven Arp of Atoka, OK, Malissa Wilson and husband Anthony of Atoka, OK, Raygan Calvert and special friend Ashley of Atoka, OK, Mindy Cochran and husband Clay of Newcastle, OK, Maygan Butler and husband Stacy of Atoka, OK, Walker Carroll and wife Mindy of Atoka, OK, Amy Bolin and husband Brandon of Atoka, OK, Amanda Sattre and husband William of Piedmont, OK, Calvin Carroll and wife Kelli of Atoka, OK, Cindy Foran and husband Trevor of Atoka, OK, Stoni Peck and husband Bryan of Atoka, OK, Joseph Carroll of Atoka, OK, Kelly Hardman and wife Donna of Atoka, OK, Karl Hardman and wife Michelle of Atoka, OK, Kisa Castleberry and husband Scott of Atoka, OK; 30 great grandchildren; 13 great great grandchildren; along with other relatives and many dear and loved friends.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Oran Ray and Ethel Sue (Foreman) Carroll; siblings, Archie Ben Carroll, Sue Hunter.
