ROWENA LARUE SIMPSON

No services are planned at this time for Rowena LaRue Simpson, age 90 years, 4 months, 21 days, an Atoka resident. Simpson passed away at her home April 17, 2020.
She was born November 27, 1929 to B.E. Vaughn and Ruth L. (Hood) Vaughn in Skellytown, Texas.
She attended schools in many towns across West Texas as her father was a roughneck in the oil field business. They ended up in McAlester, Oklahoma as her parents both worked at the Ammunition Plant. She graduated high school from McAlester. After high school the family moved to Tucumcari, New Mexico where she met and married Oscar A. Simpson, Jr. The family moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico where she resided, went to college, became a teacher,and raised a family. In 1976 she had to come to Atoka to care for her parents and stayed never to return to Albuquerque.
She had a passion for history and genealogy. She loved outdoors and fishing at her ponds. She loved pepperoni pizza, hard peppermint candies, and loved planting and caring for flowers. She loved people and helped people in need whenever she could and she loved her family dearly.
Survivors include a son, Oscar Simpson of Albuquerque, New Mexico, a daughter-in-law, Suzie Simpson of Albuquerque, New Mexico, a daughter Susan E. Simpson of Dallas, Texas, a daughter, Patricia (Kathy) Ridgway of Atoka, a grandson, Kyle A. Wallace of Dallas, Texas, and one special grandson, Mason Lane Church of Muskogee, Oklahoma.
Preceding her in death were her parents B.E. Vaughn and Ruth L. Vaughn, her husband Oscar A. Simpson, and son-in-law Glenn D. Ridgway.
