Russell Leroy Hughes, age 78, a Durant, OK resident. He was born on Thursday, March 7, 1946, to Ronald Leroy and Mildred (Brown) Hughes, at Artesia, CA. Russell passed away on Sunday, February 16, 2025 at Durant, OK. He attended Apple Valley High School in California. Russell was a builder and contractor. Russell proudly served his country in The United States Navy for 5 tours of Vietnam. He married Molly Martin in California, she preceded him in death in 2011. Russell later married Terri Noble and she preceded him in death. He lived with his daughter and son in law, Kimberly and Tom Owens, and helped raise his grandchildren, Jasmine, 29, Tommy Jr., 23, Cooper, 14, Austin, 10, in Stringtown, OK. Russell's most favorite thing to do in the whole world was playing with his grandkids, telling them tall tails about way back when, to see how much he could get them to believe or listen to before they figured out that it wasn't real! Playing (or trying to cheat) at games with them, really anything that the kids wanted to do, he would try. He loved watching movies and anything food!! Especially the tasting part! He enjoyed sitting outside, even if the grandkids were not out there, just to take in nature. He loved being there for everyone, even if it was a shoulder to cry on. For a rough on the outside side kind of guy, he had the hugest heart.
Russell is survived by his children, Kimberly Owens of Stringtown, OK, Domineek Hughes of Oregon, Travis Hughes of Oregon, Mandy Hughes of California; sister, Donna Fotos of Oregon; niece, Tina Kassapakis; nephew, Bowe Foster of California; along with great nieces, great nephews, other relatives and many dear and loved friends and family.
Russell was preceded in death by his parents, Ronald Hughes and Mildred Hughes; wives, Molly (Martin) Hughes, Terri (Noble) Hughes; sons, Max Hughes, Shannon Hughes.
