Obituary

Samantha Carol Carnes, age 31, a Tishomingo, OK resident, formerly a longtime Atoka County resident, was born on Monday, January 2, 1989, to Stacy and Dawn Marie (Mason) Pendleton, at Denison, TX. Samantha passed away on Monday, November 16, 2020 in an accident at Kingston, OK. Samantha graduated from Atoka High School in 2007 as Salutatorian. She was a member of the School Choir and the National Honor Society. After graduation she went on to attend SOSU and then attended Murray State University. Samantha was the Office Manager for Brown's Funeral Service in Madill, OK, where she was also a licensed Insurance preened salesperson. She worked for Brown's for 14 years. It was the only job she ever had. She married William Carnes on March 10, 2010 at Atoka, OK. They celebrated 10 years of marriage before her passing. At a young age Samantha began captivating others with her curly hair and infectious smile. Her charm and playfulness made her an easy favorite in many beauty pageants she participated in from age 2 to 5 with her mom. As a baby and toddler Samantha spent her time going on truck runs with her mom and dad, wrestling with her Uncle Bubby, going worm hunting with her Granny and Grandpa, or causing mayhem with her cousins at her Aunt Lori and Uncle Mike's house. Samantha was always surrounded by her family, and was certainly always the baby of the family. While Samantha's nature has always been to love and include others, this sentiment was not extended if she felt that her status as the baby of the family was threatened. Many might describe Samantha as quiet and reserved, but her family and those close to her would argue that she was equally compassionate, loyal, and the most loyal person you could ever have on your side. No matter what was going on in her personal life Samantha was always there to love and support her friends and family whenever they needed it. Samantha extended this love and drive to help others with her couponing.  While everyone close to her is aware that Samantha dove into "the couponing world" head first, which lead to creating a whole room dedicated to all her couponing treasures, what everyone may not know is those treasures were used to create "dirty Santa boxes" for her family and friends. In addition to this, on multiple occasions, Samantha used her couponing as an opportunity to bless flood and tornado victims with personal care and household items. These acts of kindness were a tribute to her character and kindness. Samantha not only enjoyed helping her family and communities, but she also enjoyed being active in both her school and church. Samantha attended First Assembly of God in Atoka most of her life. As a member Samantha participated in Bible Quiz. Samantha also enjoyed performing at Gospel Music Concerts with Esther and her Granny. Samantha has always been creative and loved to write songs, poems, and stories many of which have yet to be published. Samantha has submitted and won awards in local and national poetry contests. Samantha was also able to record a cd titled "Samantha and Esther" with her friend Esther.  Her creativity knew no limits and she often could be found drawing pictures which she frequently gifted to those around her. Samantha is survived by her husband, William Carnes of the home in Tishomingo, OK; father, Stacy Pendleton of Eufaula, OK, formerly of Lane and Tushka; mother, Dawn Brown and husband Eddie of Atoka, OK; grandfather, Harold Pendleton of Coalgate, OK; aunts, Lori Knox and husband Micheal of Atlanta, TX, Tonya Spurrier of Denver, CO; uncle, Loren (Bubby) Mason of Atoka, OK; cousins, Amanda Spencer and husband Adam along with children Axel and Deacon of Bivins, TX, Samuel Knox along with children Megan and Michael of Tioga, TX, Kennady Spurrier of Denver, CO, Conner Spurrier of Denver, CO; special cousin (aunt), Avis Abbs and husband Vic of Baraboo, WI; along with other cousins, relatives, and many dear and loved friends.
Samantha was preceded in death by her grandmother, LaVetta Pendleton; granny and grandpa, Carol and Loren (Butch) Mason; cousin, Abel Zane Spencer.
