Obituary

Sarah Jane Sheffield went to be with our Lord and Savior on Thursday, June 27, 2019, at the age of 83, with all her children by her side.

Jane was born June 22, 1936, in Judsonia, AR, the youngest daughter of John Randall and Emma Lee Emde. Jane graduated from Ruidoso High School and went on to meet and marry the love of her life, Leonard Sheffield, Jr.,

on Dec. 22, 1953, in Ruidoso, NM. They celebrated 58 wonderful years together. They lived their dream and together owned a furniture store in Alamogordo, NM for 35 years. Jane was instrumental in Leonard's service in the New Mexico legislature for eight years where they enjoyed their time together in Santa Fe.

Jane created beauty at every home she lived in through the years, including Alamogordo and High Rolls (Karr Canyon), NM; Atoka, OK; and Scottsdale, AZ.  She was a gracious host and her homes were always a warm welcome to her family and many friends, military families and senior citizens that visited. She blessed all with her delightful cooking and made many an apple pie using the apples from their orchard.

Jane was a painter and a creative writer. She enjoyed animals and nature, delighting in the details of flowers and trees. She was quick to laugh, eager to understand, and spontaneously hospitable. Committed to helping others, as well as the communities she lived in, she gave with humility, kindness and generosity.

Relationships were especially important to Jane.  Of primary value was her walk with Jesus, which grew more precious with each passing year.

Jane loved life and loved well. She will be greatly missed!

She is survived by her three children: son John Sheffield and his wife, Teri Lea, of Colorado Springs, CO, and their children Jason, Kristin and Irena; son Larry Sheffield and his wife, Tara, of Phoenix, AZ and their children Lauren, Erin and Bradley; and daughter Janet Evans and her husband, John, of Lawrence, KS and their children Kara (her husband Kenny) and Ashlyn, as well as five great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by her brother- and sister-in-law's: Lennis Fredrick of Durant, OK; Dorothy Fink and her husband, Earl, of Pawhuska, OK; Curtis Sheffield and his wife, Mary, of Lane, OK; Doyle Sheffield and his wife, Sharon, of Lane, OK; Barbara Broome and her husband, Gene, of Tushka, OK; Forrest Sheffield and his wife, Patsy, of Tupelo, MS; Jack Sheffield and his wife, Lou Ann, of Lane, OK; and Larry Sheffield and his wife, Gloria, of Lane, OK; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.

Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard of Atoka, OK, in 2012. Also, her parents, John Randall and Emma Lee Emde and her sister Phyllis McCarty, all of Ruidoso, NM.
