Velta Marlene (Fortenberry) Gabriel, age 74, a lifelong Atoka, OK resident, was born on Monday, September 16, 1946, to Thomas Lloyd and Lillian Leona (Hanson) Fortenberry, at Atoka, OK. Marlene passed away on Saturday, August 14, 2021 at Sherman, TX. She graduated from Atoka High School in 1964. Marlene was a rancher, worked as an EMT and was a housewife and homemaker. She married Josh Junior Gabriel on Saturday, April 9th, 1966 at Durant, OK. They celebrated 46 years of marriage before his passing on November 1, 2012. Marlene was of the Baptist faith. She enjoyed fishing, squirrel hunting, going to flea markets and garage sales, playing games of the computer, was an avid cornhole player and most of all loved spending time with her grandchild and great grandchildren.
Marlene is survived by her daughter, Jeanie Manion and husband Mark of Atoka, OK; son, J.R. Gabriel of Atoka, OK; granddaughter, Steevie Kirk of Atoka, OK; great grandchildren, Raley Hostetler of Atoka, OK, Josh Leflore of Atoka, OK; siblings, Dale Fortenberry of Burlingame, KS, Bobby Fortenberry and wife Fay of Grand Terrance, CA, Curtis Fortenberry of Choctaw, OK, Vernon "Bull Dog" Fortenberry of Atoka, OK, Pat Rector of Lane, OK; along with nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many dear and loved friends.
Marlene was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Leona Fortenberry; husband, Josh Junior Gabriel; grandson, Kolton Kirk; siblings, Winnie Donihoo, Thomas Fortenberry, Victor Fortenberry, Alva Fortenberry, Delbert Fortenberry, Kenneth Fortenberry; best friend, Delinda Evans.
