Vernon Lavell Eastridge, age 94, a lifelong Atoka, OK county resident, except for the 8 years he spent in Cloverdale, CA.He was born on Thursday, December 12, 1929, to Samuel and Lena Mae (Hudson) Eastridge, at Boehler, OK. Vernon passed away on Wednesday, March 13, 2024 at Antlers, OK. He attended Boehler Public Schools. Vernon worked at Redwood Sawmill in California. Vernon spent 27 years working for the Department of Corrections and reitred as Captain/Chief of Security. He married Viva Lee (Nowlin) on Sunday, June 1st, 1952 at Lane, OK. They enjoyed 66 years together before her passing in 2018.
Vernon was of the Missionary Baptist faith and was a Deacon. He spent 59 years at the Ethel Missionary Baptist Church in Antlers, OK. Vernon was an avid domino player and enjoyed fishing. He was a farmer and rancher his entire life and loved his cattle.
Vernon is survived by his children, Vernon Ray Eastridge and wife Mary of Crystal, OK, Roberta Wright of Lane, OK, Becky Harbuck of Lane, OK; grandchildren, Preston Harbuck and wife Kristi of Atoka, OK, Leanna Eastridge of Lindale, TX, Michelle Eastridge of Crystal, OK, Stephanie Berly of DeRidder, LA; great-granchildren, Carson Harbuck of Atoka, OK, Briella Eastridge of Lindale, TX, Layne Berly of DeRidder, LA, Brynlee Berly of DeRidder, LA, Calvin Smith of DeRidder, LA, Millie Usher of Atoka, OK, Tatem Usher of Atoka, OK, Newton Usher of Atoka, OK; along with many nieces, nephews, and many dear and loved friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Lena Mae (Hudson) Eastridge; wife, Viva Lee Eastridge; son,Robert Lewis Eastridge; siblings, Annis Eastridge, Vera Hughes, Herschel Eastridge, Kathleen Watson, Carl Eastridge, Frances Eastridge, Eva Eastridge, Edna Eastridge, Julius Eastridge, Jeff Eastridge, Gladys Eastridge, Virgil Eastridge, Geneva Eastridge; great-grandchild, Reese Harbuck.
