Collier
August 9, 1952 – July 20, 2024
William Andrew "Andy" Collier, age 71, a longtime Atoka, OK resident. He was born on Saturday, August 9, 1952, to William and Helen June (Hazlewood) Collier, at Bay City, TX. Andy passed away on Saturday, July 20, 2024 at Atoka, OK. He graduated from Springwoods Sr. High in Houston, Texas. Andy proudly served his country in The U.S. Army. He was 17 when he enlisted as a helicopter mechanic. He served as a crewman and door gunner on CH-47 Chinooks in the 271st Aviation Company (assault support helicopter), as part of the first aviation brigade in Vietnam, from July 1971 to July 1972, completing his service at Ft. Bragg NC, as part of the 18th Airborne Corps. Andy was a carpenter and construction project manager after returning home.
He married Renee (Steel) on Saturday, January 29th, 1994 at their home in Atoka, OK. They celebrated 30 years of marriage before his passing. Andy enjoyed golf, Nascar, making knives, Miller Lite Beer, and loved being around his family, especially his fur children, Sissy and Hoodie Who. He was a self taught painter and played the guitar and trumpet in high school and wrote music.
Andy is survived by his wife, Renee Collier of the home in Atoka, OK; children, Felisha Friemann of Atoka, OK, Chris Collier of Austin, TX, Amy Collier-Hunt of Portland, OR, Jeffery Mathies of Roseburg, OR; grandchildren, Austin Collier, Faith Collier, Mona Hunt, Kevin Mathies; great grandchild, Paisley Collier; brothers, Larry Collier of Florida, Gary Collier of Texas; uncles, Roger Hazlewood and wife Wanda of Texas, Robert Hazlewood of Atoka, OK, Bob Watkins; aunts, Shirley Watkins, Evalyn Ryman; along with other relatives and many dear and loved friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Collier and Helen June Hazlewood; grandparents, Edgar and Leona Hazlewood, Mr. and Mrs. Frank (Chief) Watkins; uncle, Carl Hazlewood; aunt, Elnora (Tootsie) Gibbons.
