Obituary William H. Mead, age 82, a Lane, OK resident, was born on Sunday, December 1, 1929, to C.F. and Edna (Sheffield) Mead, at Lane, OK. William passed away on Monday, October 29, 2012 at Oklahoma City, OK. He attended Lane and Atoka schools. William proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was honored with Combat Infantry Badge, Army Occupation Medal, Korean service medal with 2 bronze service stars, and an United Nation service medal. He married Alpha M. (Peeler) on June 18, 1955 in Reno, NV. William worked for the Ammunition Plant, in Savanna, he then became a prison guard for the Oklahoma State Penitentiary in McAlester. Later he transferred to the Mack Alford prison in Stringtown, OK. William was a truck driver for over 20 years, after retiring he became an owner and operator. He was also a rancher. William was of the Baptist faith. He enjoyed fishing, working his cattle, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. William is survived by his wife, Alpha M. Mead of the home; children, Barbara Amiott and husband Wesley of Atoka, OK., Larry Allen and wife Debbie of Atoka, OK., Patricia Shelton and husband Malcom of Bentley, OK., Billy Mead Jr. and wife Debbie of Lane, OK., Michelle McIninch and husband DeWayne of Lane, OK.; sisters, Mary Lou Chronister of Atoka, OK., Ruby Beattie of Watsonville, CA.; 16 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren; special niece, Kolene Hall and husband John of Oklahoma City, OK; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. William was preceded in death by his parents, C.F. and Edna (Sheffield) Mead; sisters, Charlene Bernard, Olita Maynard, Thelma Sheffield; brothers, Elmer Mead, Roy Mead, Autry Mead, Dudley Lyles, Arthur Mead, C.F.
