Winnie Faith Owens, age 86, passed away Friday, December 5, 2008. She was born March 11, 1922 to Rob and Lorene (Croft) Reed at Talihina, OK. She graduated from Talihina High School in 1940. Winnie graduated from the Eastern Oklahoma Agriculture and Mechanical Junior College, Wilburton, OK in 1942 and studied radio at the NYA radio school, Tonkawa, Ok. She joined the Womens Army Air Corps in Los Angeles, July 17, 1944. Pvt. Reed, is believed to be one of the first Wacs to complete the AAF's parachute jumping course. She married Robert Owens. Winnie worked as a Juvenile Officer for Orange County, California until she retired in 1982 and returned to Kingston, Oklahoma.
